I think RWB has people working in several countries now, Nakai doesn’t do them all, you can also buy the kits I think.

Nakai-san came to Toronto in early February. The car has changed owners since then, but it made its public debut at the first round of CSCS at CTMP. It was also at Porsche Centre Oakville’s Cars and Coffee, followed by the Yorkville Exotic Car show. Got to talk to the current owner a while ago, super cool guy and a it was awesome admiring the craftsmanship. This 964 RWB is officially known as dreamcatchxer, and the current owner is @kimmeljr (he also owns a white stanced STI sedan).

Date of build completion on the dash, with Nakai-sans signature. It’s also signed on the driver side rear window. IIRC the autostradaforum article on the build said he completed it in 3-4 days, then was flown off to New Zealand.

Actually Nakai-san does hand build every single RWB. The only pre-requisite is that all the necessary parts (body panels, wheels, finishing trim) are shipped to the designated build location ahead of time and the car prepped as required. Nakai-san starts the build as soon as he gets there, then gets flown off to the next destination almost immediately after completion (the waitlist for builds stretches a couple of months).

The parts for dreamcatchxer had arrived 2-3 months before Nakai-san arrived in Toronto.

I go between Japan and CA, I’ve seen a few in Japan. I went by his shop one time when I was in the area but nobody was there. The only one I’ve ever really liked was the black 964 with no wing.

I prefer the winged look! I think Speedhunters also has an article on the blue 964 Cabriolet he did in the Kuala Lampur (or was it the Phillipines) though IIRC that RWB only got the ducktail. The fact that everything is done by eye and with fairly simple hand tools is a testament to the level of craftsmanship of Nakai-san. (especially in the sealant he puts on every piece of the flares, which stands out on a bright body).

Yeah I nearly missed it too - found out about it 2 days beforehand from someone on IG who posted that the Singer 911 would be there. PCO said that this year had a larger turn out than last year, so 2017 is probably going to be even bigger (how I’m not sure since the lot was completely full when I went).

Ended up going back the week after that C&C to shoot the 911 GT1 they had on display.
